Sway Interviews R.A. The Rugged Man On Shade 45

News

R.A. The Rugged Man‘s new album Legends Never Die dropped in April, but the controversy surrounding the album hasn’t subsided. Recently, Sway Calloway of Sirius XM’s Sway In The Morning show came across the Legends Never Die bonus track “Make You Famous” and called up the Rugged Man to discuss the controversial song.  As R.A. explains in the interview, “Make You Famous” is an attack on our modern-day celebrity-obsessed culture. “We live in a society where it doesn’t matter if you have talent…it’s the more popular, celebrity person that will always get the recognition over true talent.” R.A. goes on to cite Ke$ha, Kim Kardashian, and Justin Timberlake as examples of marginally-talented celebrities who get attention more for their fame and looks than for their actual abilities.

R.A. The Rugged Man Performs In A Wheelchair, Throws It Off Stage

News

R.A. The Rugged Man is known for his live performance antics, but Hip Hop Kemp 2013 was extreme even by his standards. R.A. has been on a European tour this month, promoting his new album Legends Never Die. A few days after the Royal Arena Festival in Switzerland, the Rugged Man was jumping around on stage at a show in Germany when he broke a bone in his foot. R.A. was told to postpone the rest of his European tour and cancel his appearance at the world-famous Hip Hop Kemp festival in the Czech Republic.

Never one to listen to doctor’s orders (or anyone’s orders, for that matter), the Rugged Man ignored the advice and performed anyways. Alternating between being pushed around the stage in a wheelchair and standing on his only good foot, the one-legged rapper whipped the crowd into a frenzy that topped that of any other performance at the festival (other performers included Kendrick Lamar, De La Soul, Big Daddy Kane, Murs, El-P, and more). Near the end of the performance, R.A. shockingly threw his wheelchair into the crowd as he began to perform the track “Shoot Me In The Head”. Luckily, no audience injuries have been reported at this time.
